So you have the people, now to the ‘Where’!
So you have the people, now to the ‘Where’!
We like to use the BIG 3 to plan the best Dads Group: Coffee, Playground and Kids.
- Coffee mostly speaks for itself, but having access to hot beverages for dads and snacks for the kids can be a lifesaver. We've also found that dads are more engaged and feel more secure when they have something extra to do while attending for the first time- such as ordering and drinking a coffee.
-Playground and Kids require a little more thought. Some Dads may have a newborn baby to look after, so somewhere easily accessible to prams is essential. Others may have older kids looking to run, climb and play, so a playground with a good assortment of equipment for all ages is necessary. Also, consider finding an enclosed park to reduce anxiety about wandering kids and plenty of shade for those warmer months. Meeting at a playground/family-oriented venue is vital for keeping the conversation focused on our parenting journeys, the heart of our local Dads Groups.
On rainy, hot or cold days, we've found two Australian favourites, Bunnings and Maccas, to be great backup options for a catch-up; grab a coffee and let the kids play!
We bet you already have a place in mind!
Wherever you choose to host your Dads Group, ensure it is child-friendly and easy to find.
Hot tip - We also suggest you wear a Dads Group hat or shirt to help newbies locate you and your Group on their first day. These can be purchased at the DG Shop via the button below.
